I love YWAM Publishing and their Heroes of History and Christian Heroes Then & Now Series! I am so excited to review Billy Graham AND the study guide that goes along with it!!!!
A few years ago, while living in the DC area, I attended my very first homeschool conference. This was the beginning of my relationship with YWAM Publishing! At the time, I had a 1st grader who was already above average in reading. As I looked salivated over their excellent books, I was utterly amazed at the amount of books accompanied by study guides! The books were very impressive. Each book is presented as a story but packed full of truth, history, and information! I was so impressed with this series that I talked my hubby into buying it for me.
My oldest has read every book in the series. My middle son is starting to read them this year. You wouldn’t believe how much history and knowledge that my boys have gained from this series. HERE is a post I wrote awhile ago about YWAM. Throughout the years, since purchasing my series, YWAM has added more books to their series. To say that I was thrilled about this review is not doing my excitement any justice! When I found out my review was the Billy Graham and study guide, I was speechless, honored, thrilled and jubilant!
Billy Graham is truly a Hero in History.
So what was the book about?
Born in 1918, Billy was the oldest son of four children of a dairy farmer from Charlotte, North Carolina. Billy Graham’s parents were Calvinists and his early life gave no indication that he would one day lead the greatest religious crusade the world ever saw. Billy started attending revivals at the age of 16 that were led by Mordecai Ham. The sermons on sin spoke to him and after high school Billy moved to Tennessee to attend Bob Jones College. The strict rules there turned him away from this college and he later transferred to Florida Bible Institute (FBI). Billy was ordained in 1939. After graduating FBI with a Bachelors in Theology, Billy transferred to Wheaton College in Illinois to further his spiritual training. It was here that he met his beloved wife, Ruth Bell Graham. As an ordained minister, he rose to prominence and would subsequently preach the Christian message to over 200 million people in 185 countries during his Crusades. Billy championed civil rights, befriended US politicians and presidents, and traveled the world to places no one else dared to go. His life and ministry have shaped the spiritual life of America and offer hope for the future — inspiring new generations of leaders willing to serve with courage, integrity, and vision.
Reading this book about this great man was truly an honor. I love learning as much as possible about someone I hold in such high esteem, and I do think Billy Graham is one of the greatest Heroes in History and Christian Heroes the world has ever seen. He has impacted countless generations for the Lord. Billy Graham has been credited with preaching to more individuals than anyone else in history.I just have to add in here that recently Clay and I were able to attend The Cove Billy Graham Training Center in North Carolina for a military weekend. It was such an honor to learn more about this great man and see all the displays and pictures of his wonderful ministry. You can read more about that HERE.
How did we use it?
I always love adding in biographies to our homeschool studies, so this came at a perfect time! My oldest son has looked up to Billy Graham for many years now. Clay and I both have always shared videos, books, quotes, and movies about Billy Graham for our kids to watch. When I got this book, my oldest snatched it out of the package and immediately began reading it! He had the whole thing read that very day! He loves this book as well as all the other books we have by YWAM!
My oldest also enjoyed the study guide, which helped him dive deeper into the book. Seriously, the study guides are PACKEd full of information. Geography, History, Vocabulary, Critical Thinking and much much more are all included!
I recommend YWAM for any family, regardless of education preference (home, public or private) or age. This is an excellent resource for any family to use and add to their kids’ lives.
